trying to be disconnected

i was raised in a generation always connected

if i want to see what i was saying to my friends when i was 10, i can just open my text history

if i want to listen to something, ill press play on spotify and itll generate an infinite queue of music for me

if im walking somewhere, im on a social media trying to entertain myself during those idle moments

if my friends or i am bored while hanging out we'll pull out our phone and scroll

i feel disconnected for the actual world. which is ironic because im always connected. i know what my friends are doing and their exact location. i know whats happening in DC. i am just a text away from anyone.

but it doesn't feel genuine to experience the world from a screen

so what do you do

i can turn off my phone. but thats hard when youre used to always having it on.

but what if you need to be reached immediately

that rarely happens. im turning off my phone for a few hours. good night.
